Now I know that there' s some secret rule about when to have a giveaway, which I haven't quite figured out, so ... I'm just doing what I want - it is my blog, after all. ... and this is my 50th post, so it is a number of some significance. (to me, anyway)
This gorgeous piece of Thai silk can be yours - for the price of leaving a comment, telling me what you would make out of it. I only ask that you also be a follower (yes, a shameless plug for more followers than I already have). Comments can be left up till (and including) next Wednesday, August 17. I will then draw a name for a winner.
Details - this fabric is a little more than 3 metres long, 104 cm wide. I tried photographing in various light conditions to get the exact colour, but didn't quite succeed, so to describe - there are two colours of thread - Christmas red running lengthwise and Christmas green running crosswise. Depending on how the fabric is turned, it looks either green or red. This piece was given to me by a friend who lived in Thailand for a while. When she could no longer sew, her stash moved to my house. The story I was told, is that this piece was handwoven to order. There are a few minor imperfections of the sort that I would expect in a fabric of this type. It's weight is similar to a light-weight duppioni, though much smoother. It's beautiful - just not my colour, and I really would like for it to go to someone who will actually use it. So - please leave your comments. Oh - I will send anywhere in the world.
I am already a follower. 3 meters is enough to make lots of different things. A long sexy night gown or a nice shorty one with a matching shorty robe that would be fun...Or skirt and top or dress, mmm maybe that Vogue DKNY 1250 but that may take a fabric with some stretch would have to check the info on that pattern again. The color is pretty. I had some silky material I used for drapes and its the same way has two colors of threads and impossible to get the camera to pick up exact color on it. But it sure made up pretty into gorgeous drapes!
ReplyDeleteOooo such pretty fabric. I can imagine the fabric worked up in a sheath dress as my first choice or a skirt. Great background story too.
ReplyDeleteI would make a tunic type blouse with embroidery and maybe some lace around the neckline. Of course my second choice would be the lining of an asian type bag. I'm already a follower. sewforreal-mamafiore.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteOooh, please enter me into your giveaway for the shot silk! I adore silk, as you know, and even more so the complexity of the appearance of shot fabric. I would make a dress or a little jacket out of this...
ReplyDeleteI am already a follower of your blog.
Silk is (beside bouclé) one of my favourite fabrics! This shiny one is very, very beautiful and I would made a two pieces dress out of it. The top I would make with a peplum. This kind of dress was shown in one of the last issues of Patrones.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am a follower of your blog but I don´t have a blog by myself. I adore your clothes and it would be great to be the winner (for the first time)!
You must be very sad that this colour doesn´t fit you.
Greetings from Germany

Oh, how fun! I love giveaways-both giving and possible receiving. I think this fabric would make such a fun Christmas lingerie set. Of course, there is enough for a cami and tap pants, or a short negligee, and a robe. Wouldn't it also be nice to sew up a makeup bag to match? Oh, and I am a follower already, of course :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is a good color for my red hair! I would make a jacket, lined with silk, of course. Maybe I could use that fabulous selvedge on it somewhere for embellishment. Yummy!
ReplyDeleteHi Irene,
ReplyDeleteI follow your blog in Google Reader and please don't enter me in this giveaway but I just wanted to say the fabric looks lovely and it will be interesting to see how it eventually gets made up.
ooooo.... What a lovely giveaway. A nice new jacket for my new job, with a matching bag, would look fab in this fabric and give me an opportunity to utilise my new speed tailoring skil!
ReplyDeleteAdd me! Please! The idea suggested by this beautiful fabric is undoubtedly ... Christmas! what is just around the corner .... I guess double-breasted jacket with a huge collar that falls on the shoulders ... and of course a cute matching hat!
ReplyDeleteLove the story behind this fabric, which makes it more fabulous!
I thought I had commented already! I hope I'm not too late. I'm already a follower, and I would love to make a sheath dress with that gorgeous fabric.
ReplyDeleteTossing my hat into the fray! I'll be home soon, so sewing is on my to-return-to list!
